What We Do
-
Supporting Others
Do you have a friend you're concerned about or think might need some support? They might have contacted you or you may have heard about it from others who are concerned.
Do you feel well equipped to offer them support?
Although we're not a crisis service, we heard this messaging loud and clear and have created a role at Our Town Cummins, “The Peer Connector”, so you have a point of contact to help navigate this uncertainty. We are working on ways to help before things worsen and upskill our community to feel more confident in reaching into others.
-
Diversity & Inclusion
Understanding diverse needs to us means, recognising individual experiences, challenges, and perspectives. Each piece of the community puzzle is unique and essential to seeing the whole picture. We listen to understand and celebrate what makes us all different.
We have created a role here that looks into differences felt in the community. What makes people feel different in Cummins? Is it their background, is it their race, or sexual orientation? We want to celebrate what makes us different and stamp out stigma and bias. There is a lot of misinformation out there so together lets get curious and become life leaners in better understading our bias so we can create long lasting change.
-
Drugs & Alcohol - Harm Minimisation
Through our initial discovery back in 2020, where we interviewed local stakeholders to gain a deeper understanding of what was creating people to become mentally Unwell in Cummins, we heard that in all cases of mental health call outs with Police and Ambulance Drugs and Alcohol were present in 18+.
At Our Town Cummins we are committed to helping our community stay strong, safe, and connected.
As part of the local Drug Action Team on the Lower Eyre Peninsula, we’re dedicated to bringing evidence-based programs to Cummins that support wellbeing.
-
Community Connections
The Community Connections Program sits at the heart of Our Town Cummins and aims to create strong bonds and social involvement in our community.
Isolation and Loneliness can come at all different stages of our lives so being connected across your lifespan in lots of different ways is vital for good mental health.
We have listened to what the community has asked for and have come up with a range of activities and events to bring people together. From the walking group, to Mums and Bubs and everything in between. We have lots of opportunities to connect, laugh and make new friends. Come and join us!!

Youth
Our youth are the future of Cummins and we heard from them that they did not feel included or valued, especially when it came to understanding what needs to change to improve mental health for our whole community.
We have taken it upon ourselves to try to change this and ensure our youth feel heard, valued safe and included at Our Town Cummins.
Our youth asked for a space for them to gather - and from this space their ideas are starting to come to life and we are excited to be a valued part of this change.
