Diversity & Inclusion
Understanding Diverse Needs
There might be moments where we stumble as we learn, but that’s part of the journey. These moments help us grow. We are committed to learning what it truly means to be a diverse community and how to ensure all people feel a sense of belonging.
At Our Town, we’re committed to this ongoing journey. By sharing our learnings and experiences, we grow together -and grow a community where everyone feels seen, valued, and supported.
Raising Awareness and Perspective
At Our Town Cummins, we believe that diversity and culture are the spices of life – essential ingredients that make our community vibrant and full of character. Our approach to raising awareness is through initiatives that celebrate what makes us unique!
Coffee, Cake, and Connect: Inviting community for a cuppa. You might be surprised how much can brew over a simple cup.
Community Immersion: Participating in or hosting local events or festivals that celebrate different cultures, such as reconciliation week. Dabbling in cooking classes, workshops, or craft sessions that originate from minority communities.
Listen to Podcasts and Read: Seeking out voices from minority groups through literature and podcasts. Sharing stories from other perspectives can shift your understanding.
Peer Groups: Facilitating space for Peer groups to emerge. Currently we have an LGBTQIA+ EP group as well as a Special Needs and our kids.
Online presence: If you have followed our socials you will see reels and posts celebrating our differences and highlighting others who celebrate us too. Join the Tribe and show your support for those who feel this difference in our community.
Through these activities, Our Town Cummins not only raises awareness of diversity and culture but also nurtures a sense of belonging and togetherness. After all, in our little town, every voice counts, and every culture adds to the richness of our community!

Building Trust & Relationships
Building relationships rooted in trust allows us to learn from one another, especially across diverse backgrounds and experiences. It’s through these relationships that we:
Tap into and learn from others who are currently doing great work in this space
Broaden awareness to challenge bias that exists in our town
Listening to those with lived experiences
Grow together as a community
By listening with care and curiosity, we don‘t just hear words- we begin to understand the stories, values, and hopes that shape people’s lives. Learning to understand these diverse perspectives enriches our collective experience, fostering empathy and collaboration.
We bring this to life through creative, collaborative approaches that celebrate culture, spark dialogue, and centre community voices because we believe meaningful change grows from trust and the ways we learn from and with each other.
When we make space for each other’s differences, we don’t just support individuals- we build a stronger, kinder community for everyone.
Get Amongst It!
There are so many simple and enjoyable ways to see the world through someone else’s eyes and also to feel seen ourselves. Whether it’s through a powerful book, a thought-provoking podcast, or a show that reflects lived experiences, these everyday tools can open our minds, spark new conversations, and help us understand each other better.
